The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Quinshon Judkins slide 101 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The cost of the Overton reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Isaiah Bond in slot 62 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at the 74th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A big swing on LT Overton at No. 93, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach the 131st overall pick and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They barely believed it either: Quinshon Judkins still on the board at pick 184. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 206. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No drama and no debate, Kyren Lacy went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 23. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached into another round for Jack Kiser, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A wild overpay on Mason Taylor in the 240th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
