This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 110 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 29. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Wilson left real value on the table behind him.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in pick No. 61, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had cheaper options than Jared Wilson at No. 97, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Dylan Sampson at the 127th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 140 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Luke Kandra at the 149th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a linebacker like Smael Mondon Jr. reach Round 6, Pick 29 and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Luke Lachey at slot 235 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Theo Wease Jr. all the way to Round 7, Pick 20, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Bhayshul Tuten in No. 250 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
