The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Reaching for Whittington left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Taliese Fuaga slid further than he should have, and the 34th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 66 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Luke Lachey at the 100th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at slot 139, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jordan Whittington at Round 6, Pick 5 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 223rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
