Somebody in pick 202 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 120 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They will need Davis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 26 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyleik Williams at No. 59 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jayden Higgins in pick 79. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a cornerback like Tommi Hill reach the 146th overall pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeffrey Bassa in the 202nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value said wait; Jasheen Davis in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A real head-scratcher, Tim Smith in pick No. 246 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
