If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Commanders, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
Landing Allen that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 17 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 57th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy little value on Javon Bullard in the 67th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in slot 96; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jacob Cowing in Round 4, Pick 1, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Justin Eboigbe at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Braelon Allen in No. 181, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Austin Stogner was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 45. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
