When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jay Toia at Round 7, Pick 30, a reach of 68 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

However the rest shakes out, Lawson at that price is a win they earned. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 16
In pick 26 they get a rangy last line of defense, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Xavier Restrepo · WR · rank 49
Xavier Restrepo at Round 2, Pick 27 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 81
Deontae Lawson at pick No. 113 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.9 · Pick 146 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 118
Taking Daylen Everette in slot 146 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Quinn Carroll · OT · rank 247
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Quinn Carroll well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Tim Smith · DL · rank 296
Tim Smith in the 235th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Paris Shand · DE · rank 298
They talked themselves into Paris Shand at the 239th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Jay Toia · DL · rank 314
Jay Toia in the 246th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
