The Commanders spent real capital to be 52 picks early on PJ Williams, and the board is going to hold them to it. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging. Gadsden II at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Denzel Burke at pick 60 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent the 79th pick on Andrew Mukuba, a safety they were not short of.
They will replay Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: PJ Williams in Round 6, Pick 27, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Kaden Prather, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jamaree Caldwell at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
