You build a draft on nights like this. Jack Bech had no business being available in the 156th pick, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
Reaching for Parker left real value on the table behind him. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a long-term starter on the line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good price on Omarr Norman-Lott in No. 79, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Rylie Mills. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Xavier Scott in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Jack Bech all the way to slot 156, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tonka Hemingway at pick No. 203 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Karene Reid here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They talked themselves into Steven Parker at No. 247, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
