The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jalon Walker, the No. 22 name on the board, in the 79th pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Every board in the league had Griffith lower, and that gap is the story. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
They will replay Jalon Walker at the 79th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Daylen Everette at Round 5, Pick 9 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Ty Hamilton went about where he belonged in pick 203. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on J.C. Davis at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value said wait; Thor Griffith in the 247th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
