The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 156 name on the board, sitting there at the 203rd overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
If Fleming pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 29 is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in slot 61, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Luke Kandra all the way to the 146th pick, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Bhayshul Tuten in Round 6, Pick 28 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Julian Fleming at the 236th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Garrett Dellinger at pick 247 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
