Washington Commanders

Clark should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a B+.

The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: De'Corian Clark, the No. 171 name on the board, in pick No. 228. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. It is not that Moore is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.10 · Pick 10 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 12
In pick 10 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · JT Tuimoloau · DE-EDGE · rank 34
JT Tuimoloau in the 36th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 50
They paid up for Cooper Beebe at pick No. 39 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 45
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Rod Moore · DB · rank 77
A curious use of slot 71. Quarterback and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a defensive back in Rod Moore did not.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 104
Matt Goncalves in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.8 · Pick 144 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 146
No drama and no debate, Luke Lachey went about where he belonged in No. 144. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.10 · Pick 185 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 178
Raheim Sanders at the 185th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 179
Value with a capital V on Cam Hart in pick 188, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.8 · Pick 228 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 171
They will replay De'Corian Clark at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
