Somebody in slot 228 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Bru McCoy, the No. 190 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Every board in the league had Hart lower, and that gap is the story. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Joe Alt in Round 1, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Johnny Wilson in the 36th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Cooper Beebe in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Princely Umanmielen in No. 71. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 100; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Javion Cohen in the 107th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cam Hart in pick No. 144 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at slot 185 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Bru McCoy at the 228th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
