The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick No. 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fair-plus on Bralen Trice, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Zak Zinter at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Brenden Rice at No. 102 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Josh Newton at the 139th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a safety like Sione Vaki reach Round 6, Pick 4 and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Caedan Wallace in pick 222 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
