The war room fell hard for Oronde Gadsden II, and it showed at pick No. 129: 63 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Clark to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
They liked Jeremiah Trotter Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in the 36th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at the 39th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zak Zinter at pick 61 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Chris Braswell in pick No. 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Blake Fisher went about where he belonged in No. 100. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tate Ratledge at pick No. 107 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Raheim Sanders in pick 120 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Oronde Gadsden II at slot 129, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cam Hart at the 144th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J. Michael Sturdivant. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in No. 185: De'Corian Clark for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A conviction pick on Storm Duck at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
