Nobody had Devin Neal this high, and it is not close. The Commanders reached 111 spots to get him at pick No. 183. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Danny Stutsman. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value said wait; Quincy Riley in pick 66 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on J. Michael Sturdivant, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Javontez Spraggins in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Josaiah Stewart at slot 162, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Devin Neal in pick No. 183 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
