Washington Commanders

Travis should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a C.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Commanders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.

Getting Travis where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 26
In the 19th pick they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 37
No drama and no debate, Chop Robinson went about where he belonged in No. 36. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 32
A slide stopped in slot 40, with Emeka Egbuka worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 76
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in pick No. 72, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 79
Christian Haynes at pick 73 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 95
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Tykee Smith. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 94
They let Zak Zinter come to them and pounced at the 102nd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 98
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Davis in pick No. 111. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 145
Theo Johnson in slot 141 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 142
They barely believed it either: Jordan Travis still on the board at Round 5, Pick 31. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Kaden Prather · WR · rank 174
Nothing to complain about; Kaden Prather went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Akheem Mesidor · DL-EDGE · rank 224
A straight-up fair deal on Akheem Mesidor at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
