The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Danny Stutsman, the No. 101 name on the board, sitting there at Round 5, Pick 1 like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Asante has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Patrick Paul in No. 51 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cooper DeJean at pick No. 64 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in pick 97; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Danny Stutsman at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board had cheaper options than Will Shipley at the 147th pick, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kamal Hadden at the 172nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Gabriel Murphy come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 3. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Eugene Asante at pick No. 253, and the board did not agree. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
