Thirty-one other rooms let De'Corian Clark slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at pick No. 253. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They will answer for taking defensive back early while cornerback, safety and other spots went begging. They are betting Mills proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Emeka Egbuka come to them and pounced at pick 32. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 51 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Byron Murphy II in the 64th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose defensive back. Max Melton in Round 3, Pick 34 leaves cornerback, safety and other spots for later.
Nothing to complain about; Donovan Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tyler Guyton in No. 147 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
MarShawn Lloyd at slot 173 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They jumped the gun on Oronde Gadsden II, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Rylie Mills at pick No. 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
De'Corian Clark in pick 253 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
