You could see the war room lean forward. Jaden Hicks at No. 137 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Kool-Aid McKinstry was the payoff at the 27th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Calen Bullock in Round 2, Pick 18, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 59 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zak Zinter in slot 97. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaden Hicks in pick 137 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Dylan Laube higher than the 156th overall pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Michael Barrett at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Ethan Driskell in No. 183 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Carson Steele in slot 248; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
