The real work happened on the phones. The Eagles fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Every board in the league had Monheim lower, and that gap is the story.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Franklin. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Denzel Burke at No. 50 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 59th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cole Bishop at pick 137 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Jonah Monheim at Round 5, Pick 20 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Ben Bywater at par in slot 178, which is nothing to complain about. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Carson Steele in the 248th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
