The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Ainias Smith, slot 163, roughly 47 picks past where he belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Laube lower, and that gap is the story. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a long-term starter on the line, outstanding value to boot.
Terrion Arnold in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Byron Murphy II all the way to slot 54, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Javon Bullard at pick No. 97 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid up for Dylan Laube at the 137th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ainias Smith in No. 163, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ben Sinnott in the 172nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 3: Andru Phillips for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Gabe Hall in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
