The Oronde Gadsden II selection is the head-turner. The Eagles reached 39 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. On value alone, James makes the weekend a net positive. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The George Kittle pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Denzel Burke in the 51st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking D.J. James in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 1; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
They reached a country mile for Oronde Gadsden II at No. 147, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Malachi Moore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Gabriel Murphy in Round 6, Pick 3. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zion Nelson in the 253rd overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
