Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Trey Knox at pick No. 156 is 29 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Smith makes the weekend a net positive.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid a round early for Edgerrin Cooper in pick 50, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jermaine Burton in slot 59 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Will Shipley at the 97th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Mike Sainristil in the 137th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Trey Knox at Round 5, Pick 20, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Ainias Smith higher than pick 172, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Josh Proctor at Round 6, Pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They took Carson Steele at par in the 248th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
