You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Joe Milton III in No. 152. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Vaki value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Cooper Beebe in the 50th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 67 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They did well to land Brenden Rice in slot 100, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Isaac Guerendo in No. 120, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jared Wiley. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tahj Washington at pick No. 171 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Sione Vaki, who had no business lasting to the 172nd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Jaylan Ford, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
