Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Khyree Jackson, the No. 104 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 137th pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Ford reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordan Morgan slid further than he should have, and pick No. 36 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
T.J. Tampa at the 54th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Marist Liufau in slot 99. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Matt Goncalves at par in No. 100, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Roman Wilson was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaden Hicks at the 108th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Sataoa Laumea in Round 4, Pick 29 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a cornerback like Khyree Jackson reach pick 137 and blink. They did not. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They paid a round early for Jaylan Ford in the 156th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy bit of business in slot 159, where Braelon Allen graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jordan Magee at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Jennings. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
