The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named interior defensive lineman, a need the Eagles walked right past. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Reaching for Jones left real value on the table behind him. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Kamren Kinchens at No. 53 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in pick 65, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Max Melton in slot 97. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at the 102nd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason McCormick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Luke McCaffrey at the 170th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Kamal Hadden in Round 5, Pick 35, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ty'Ron Hopper at Round 6, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Joe Milton III in No. 189 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Matthew Jones in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
