You could see the war room lean forward. Cam Skattebo at Round 7, Pick 4 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Reaching for Weaver left real value on the table behind him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 14 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. More want than need.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tate Ratledge in the Round 2 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land Dylan Fairchild in the 59th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Hollin Pierce at Round 3, Pick 5, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 97 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Malachi Moore at the 104th pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at pick 127 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Mason Taylor in No. 138, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Lathan Ransom still on the board at the 143rd overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 181 is the definition of value, full stop. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 207 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They reached into another round for Graham Mertz, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to the 220th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Bryson Nesbit at pick 238 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
J.J. Weaver at Round 7, Pick 27 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jonah Monheim in the 253rd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
