Call it larceny. Tahj Brooks sat on the board until pick 244, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Keanaaina has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Kalel Mullings at par in No. 44, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for DJ Campbell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Antonio Williams in slot 150 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jay Higgins at the 170th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Riley Mahlman in Round 5, Pick 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cashius Howell well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Tahj Brooks was still sitting there in pick No. 244, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Aidan Keanaaina in No. 256 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
