The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Dixon steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Amarius Mims at pick 34. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 4 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Jordan Morgan in the 40th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Payton Wilson slid further than he should have, and the 67th overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No drama and no debate, Cade Stover went about where he belonged in pick No. 68. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Michael Hall Jr. in slot 78; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Calen Bullock graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Johnny Wilson in No. 103, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Joe Milton III at the 152nd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Johnny Dixon in pick No. 222, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
