When a board-topper like Patrick Paul slides to the 87th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The cost of the Tagovailoa reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Circle this one: Quinyon Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 24 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Patrick Paul in pick No. 87 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Payton Wilson at slot 95 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Malik Washington went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay McKinnley Jackson at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Jaylin Simpson all the way to the 174th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Aki Ogunbiyi was still sitting there in pick 210, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A conviction pick on Taulia Tagovailoa at the 212th pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
De'Corian Clark slipping to the Round 6 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jared Wiley in pick No. 245 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
