The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Omar Speights went at pick 233, a good 108 picks before the board was ready. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Steven Nelson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than Patrick Paul at slot 59, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Bucky Irving at the 87th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at No. 125 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
James Williams in pick No. 128 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They went early on Tommy Eichenberg in the 134th overall pick, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Grayson Murphy went about where he belonged in the 174th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A conviction pick on Myles Murphy at pick 216 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Omar Speights at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jordan Whittington at slot 244 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
