If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Gabe Jacas at the Round 5 slot is 119 spots clear of where he belonged.
Mondon Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Matthew Golden went about where he belonged in pick 44. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Deone Walker in Round 3, Pick 12 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Ollie Gordon II at the 148th overall pick, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Willie Lampkin in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Gabe Jacas at No. 170 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Smael Mondon Jr. at No. 173 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
