Dallas Cowboys

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Cowboys a B-.

The Cowboys did not so much draft Khalid Duke as overpay for him, 47 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The Sweat value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 24
In the 24th pick they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
T'Vondre Sweat at slot 56 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 199
They left a pile of value on the table to take Steele Chambers this early at pick 174. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Andrew Raym · C · rank 239
A real head-scratcher, Andrew Raym in No. 216 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Daijahn Anthony · CB · rank 237
A straight-up fair deal on Daijahn Anthony at Round 7, Pick 13, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Khalid Duke · DE-EDGE · rank 291
Khalid Duke at pick 244 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
