Nobody had Nick Gargiulo this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 107 spots to get him at No. 174. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Landing Dixon that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They liked Jeremiah Trotter Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 56. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in the 87th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nick Gargiulo. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Zion Logue at Round 6, Pick 41, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Cornelius Johnson all the way to pick No. 233, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Johnny Dixon was still sitting there in the 244th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
