The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Jowon Briggs, 53 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The Flournoy pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 56 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at pick 87 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Curtis Jacobs in Round 5, Pick 38 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jowon Briggs at slot 216 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ryan Flournoy at the 233rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 7, Pick 24 with a little surplus value in Daijahn Anthony. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
