The real work happened on the phones. The Cowboys fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Washington. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Adding Jauan Jennings by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
T'Vondre Sweat in the 56th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 31, where Kris Jenkins graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They did well to land Malachi Corley in pick No. 87, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kris Abrams-Draine at No. 124 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Malik Washington at slot 174 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, JD Bertrand went about where he belonged in the 209th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Jonah Monheim in pick 212; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jase McClellan at pick No. 245 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
