This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Johnny Dixon, the No. 191 name on the board, stolen at the Round 7 slot. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Nourzad has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A slide stopped in slot 59, with Edgerrin Cooper worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trey Benson at Round 3, Pick 24 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Hunter Nourzad at the 127th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Julian Pearl in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jha'Quan Jackson at pick No. 216 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Johnny Dixon at pick 233 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had cheaper options than Solomon Byrd at No. 244, and it noticed. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Garret Greenfield in pick No. 247 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
