You can draft well and still miss the point. The Cowboys did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Landing Washington that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Watson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Denzel Burke in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cooper Beebe at the 87th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Kris Abrams-Draine in Round 4, Pick 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Malik Washington was the payoff at slot 174. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christian Jones in the 212th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nathaniel Watson at pick 245 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
