The Cowboys let the board come to them and it handed over Payton Wilson in the 87th overall pick, comfortably the best value of their weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Jones reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick No. 56 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had Payton Wilson higher than No. 87, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaylin Simpson at the 156th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Christian Jones at the 172nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fair-plus on Roger Rosengarten, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jawhar Jordan at Round 6, Pick 37 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Thomas in the 245th overall pick, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
