The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Evan Anderson, 61 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, running back and other spots still on the board. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Wilson.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Johnny Wilson was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with quarterback, running back and other spots open.
Javon Foster at the 115th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Kris Abrams-Draine went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javon Baker in Round 5, Pick 38 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Evan Anderson at the 212th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Dwight McGlothern at pick No. 236 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Whittington at Round 7, Pick 25 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
