The rest of the league had time to spare on Hunter Nourzad; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 31 spots ahead at pick 128. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Hunter Nourzad at No. 128 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 134 with a little surplus value in Chau Smith-Wade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jordan Jefferson at slot 174 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Justin Rogers at par in Round 6, Pick 14, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Caedan Wallace in pick No. 216 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Bub Means in pick 233, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Donovan Jennings at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
