When a board-topper like Moose Muhammad III slides to slot 212, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Reaching for Nelson left real value on the table behind him.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brian Thomas Jr. in pick No. 62. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Tyleik Williams in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Khyree Jackson in No. 130 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 174 with a little surplus value in Ty'Ron Hopper. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Moose Muhammad III at Round 6, Pick 37 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zion Nelson in the 251st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
