You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Trevin Wallace at pick No. 87, roughly 146 spots before his name belonged.
Getting Dixon where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Frazier at pick 56, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Trevin Wallace in the 87th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Cody Schrader in pick No. 174, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Gabe Hall at slot 216 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Johnny Dixon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a wide receiver like Ryan Flournoy reach No. 244 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
