Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Cody Schrader, the No. 175 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 246. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
Every board in the league had Eichenberg lower, and that gap is the story. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jordan Morgan reach the 63rd pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
McKinnley Jackson in the 123rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Elijah Jones at Round 4, Pick 24 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Johnny Wilson in slot 125 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Isaac Guerendo, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at No. 174. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Isaiah Williams at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Keith Randolph Jr. in pick No. 220, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 233 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tylan Grable in pick 244 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Cody Schrader at Round 7, Pick 26 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
