The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 215 on Stone Handy a full 146 spots early. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Henderson. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
The board fumbled Kenneth Grant all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at pick 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a running back like Kaleb Johnson reach pick No. 97 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for TreVeyon Henderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at slot 170 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 174th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
JJ Pegues at pick 177 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A real head-scratcher, CJ West in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Brandon Adams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Stone Handy at pick No. 215 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
