This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: D.J. James, the No. 64 name on the board, stolen at the Round 3 slot. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Ogunbiyi left real value on the table behind him. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Byron Murphy II in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: D.J. James still on the board at Round 3, Pick 24. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dillon Johnson in pick No. 124. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Jaylan Ford went about where he belonged in pick 168. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Aki Ogunbiyi at No. 174 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Jalen Green in the 212th pick, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Eric Gentry in the 245th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
