Nobody else had Evan Anderson anywhere near the Round 7 slot. The Cowboys did, by 64 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Getting Benson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cooper Beebe this early at the 56th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trey Benson slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in Round 4, Pick 24 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jaylan Ford in pick 174 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in pick No. 212: Josh Proctor for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Evan Anderson at pick 245 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
