This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Evan Williams, the No. 214 name on the board, stolen at Round 7, Pick 13. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Foster to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value said wait; Javon Foster in No. 98 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Christian Jones at pick 119 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Dillon Johnson in the 174th pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Curtis Jacobs in slot 216, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Evan Williams all the way to Round 7, Pick 13, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Tyrice Knight at the 244th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
