The Cowboys bet big and early on Tanor Bortolini, 44 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
On value alone, Newton makes the weekend a net positive. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A quiet steal in the Round 1 slot: Rome Odunze for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
In pick No. 27 they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 24 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Justin Eboigbe in pick 125 is miles ahead of his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tanor Bortolini. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Josh Newton in slot 149 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, JD Bertrand at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in the 233rd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Sam Hartman in pick No. 237 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
LaDarius Henderson in Round 7, Pick 24 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
