Call it larceny. Kalel Mullings sat on the board until the 169th pick, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They are betting McCord proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board fumbled Jahdae Barron all the way to the 42nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They will replay Jordan James at slot 73 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Jay Higgins was still sitting there in pick No. 149, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Kalel Mullings at Round 5, Pick 31 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Danny Stutsman in pick 170 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Michael Taaffe at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A tidy bit of business in the 186th pick, where Nazir Stackhouse graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Kyle McCord in the 209th pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
